| the best things in life are free! |
galing ako sa doktor nung linggo at kailangan ko nang mag-replenish ng aking mga gamot. wala ang gp ko kaya ibang doktor ang tumingin sa akin. and would you believe? the doctor said they're not charging me for the pf for that day. why is that so? it's part of the annual chuva chuchu! o de vah? naka-libre ako nang wala akong kamalay-malay?
Thank you Lord for all these freebies!

| lukso ng dugo (last part) |
sumagot na sa email ko ang ex-gf ng kapatid ko. maganda naman ang nilalaman ng kanyang sulat. natutuwa at naintriga kung paano ko raw sila natagpuan. well, credit goes to my man.. though wala syang facebook account, sya ang nag-introduce sa akin na i-try ko ang mga networking sites at baka sakaling matumbok nga yung bata. which i did. first few months, wiz ako makita. pero malakas ang kutob ko, if i try friendster or bebo, i have higher chances if i go for facebook due to google trends. those in the u.s. use facebook more than any other social networking sites.
medyo na-surpresa raw yung bata. natural reaction. what would you expect? well... actually, di na bata. she's now a grown up woman her age.. she's 29 and is getting married this october! how cool is that? hahahaa!! she was just two the last time we saw her. im sure, she wouldn't be able to recognize me nor have any memories while she was still in the Philippines. Which is true, I found out, she has not been back to Manila since they flew to the u.s.
ni-forward ng nanay ang email ko dun sa anak. di nagtagal, nag-email na sa akin ang bata. nakakatuwa. ang sarap ng feeling. kung ako na tita lang ay tuwang-tuwa na, lalo na siguro ang kapatid ko. how i wish i was with my mom and brother to celebrate this new beginning. nag-birthday etong pamangkin ko nung 27th May. binati ko. nagulat ang bata. paano ko raw nalaman. why wouldn't we? we have been celebrating her birthday every year since she left. my mom will cook something special on her birthdays. natuwa etong bata. she was touched that we remember her birthdays and have celebrated them.
well... ke maraming tinanong ang kapatid ko o kaunti lang, im sure, tuwang-tuwa ang kapatid ko na marinig man lang muli ang boses ng anak nya at ang mga kwento nito. there is a lot of catching up to do. and we're doing it one step at a time. im sure there is hope these two will meet sooner or later. im happy for my brother. mission accomplished!

| someone's watching you.... |
are you into facebook or bebo? well.. if you are, be careful as to who you add as a friend or what you put in there.
speaking of ripping off the government from my previous post, one can't win all the time. i read this news, one lady who told winz she is single and she's getting NZ$480 a week as benefits. but investigators checked on her bebo and facebook pages and found out that she's living with the father of her 2-yr old son which means, she is only entitled to NZ$140 a week.
she's now convicted of ripping winz of more than $17,000. ha!
well, looks like the investigators are now resorting to hi-tech means of spying people.
in another news, not in relation to ripping off the government, another woman lost her job when she said she can't work in front of the computer and needs to lie in the dark but was seen active in her facebook. although she claimed she was using her iPhone, she still wasn't able to save her job. sad!
looks like there are pros and cons of these famous social networking sites. just like today, i was able to stumble upon an old friend thru facebook. we lost contact about 20years ago when he joined the us navy. we met thru cb radio and was in the same group. we had a number of community services like the alay lakad in antipolo every 30th of april or during the procession of la naval in quezon city. we manned the busy streets and made sure the processions/ alay lakad were "running" smoothly. gosh! he was surprised as well as myself, and asked what am i doing here in nz, if i have any kids, etc, etc, etc and that i have a lot of explaining to do! ha! it was fun catching up with an old friend.

| getting benefits from the government |
look at the photo from my previous post. obviously an elderly man who should just be staying home, should have already retired but opted to sit by the road and advertise himself as a good worker and that he is looking for a job. i commend this man. instead of just getting benefits from the government and just relaxing at home with his grandchildren, he is there looking for a job. and what a way to advertise himself.
this afternoon, i was chatting with my man and i mentioned to him about one of my staff. when she was new, i have asked her a couple or so times to work overtime over the weekend. she obliged with no problem at all. but on the fourth attempt, she confided to me that she can't. the reason being, she gets money from the government for her three kids. and if she gets paid more, the government will give her less benefits for her kids. i replied back by saying, "well, aren't you happy that you wouldn't rely getting money from the government?" she didn't say a word and obviously, she appeared not happy with my statement.
i wonder how these people manage to get money from the government and you can see them capable to work full time or even more. there's another one from work, he reports for work only for one day, on saturdays that is. and it made me curious how he sustains himself with only one day of work. he doesn't work for anyone else. he also goes to school. he said, he gets about $600 weekly as his "benefits" from the government for student and sickness benefit. what sickness benefit are you talking about, i asked! you don't look sick! he said he is and he was pointing his finger to his head. read: he's being wise. but how i asked again. he "claims" he has back pain and he cannot sit for longer hours. i can qualify on this premise!
another workmate who is still new, just less than a year working with us, a single mum with one child, apparently disowned by her parents because of this, now lives in a motel and pregnant again by another man. she's always off from work, apparently she's sick because of her "preggy" condition and if not, it's her son who is sick. in a month, you will see her at work maybe just a few days. she'll be off from work more than when she can really come to work. all of us are wondering how she can survive with that. obviously, the benefits. she gets money from the government, like child support and living allowance? right now, she has been off from work for more than a week now. and worst thing is, her team is suffering because of her absences. and because her team is suffering, my manager pulls out one of my staff and asks her to work for the other team. i asked my boss until when they will let her do these things? like she coming to work anytime she wants. obviously, there is a process. and my boss said they are dealing with it. i said until when? when she's off from work, it's my team in the end who is suffering. why don't you just fire her? hahaha!! im bad! la! all that they can say is, they wish life can be that easy!
from my previous job, i have encountered some clients of ours who own properties and rent them out, yet they get benefits from the government. some even rent out their rooms and have four or so flatmates but they don't declare their income and still, get money from the government. there's one, the mother of my previous flatmate, she drives a flashy BMW, lives in a 3-storey townhouse and pays $390 for rent (i know coz my ex-flatmate told me), makes money out of "massaging" but doesn't declare her income. she works from home, all cash, i heard, and still gets money from the government because she has 3 small kids.
when i was working in a supermarket, these "buko" are more often the ones who get the $150 allowance for their groceries per week. if you manage to check on their trolleys, you will see a lot of useless stuffs that they buy. i say useless because they are not part of the necessities like food. they get two or more containers of ice creams and some even try to outsmart us by giving us their cartons of beer first to be scanned and they give you the voucher last. good thing is, if you remember there's one hiding in the innermost part of the trolley that shouldn't be there! or else, we, the checkout operators, will be in trouble! ha!
the list can go on and on! and if you are keen to google, there's one site which tells you how to rip off winz! sad thing is, they're all true!
p.s.

| easter surprises! |
look what i got in here! after winning four prizes from a fund raising easter raffle draw, i thought it might be a good idea to buy lotto ticket for tonight's draw. i was unsure if the shops are open today but thought i'd drive around the supermarket area where there is a lotto shop.
before leaving my flat, i thought i'd check first my bank account online. to my surprise, it was indeed a surprise! surprise! i don't have enough money left in my account. strange! i tried to check on my expenses. okay... the bank balance is correct. i overspent this week. so i thought one lotto ticket and one item from the supermarket will be all that i need to spend.
carpark is full. i drove around for a couple of times, and i spotted a nice parking space, just near the mall's entrance.
i went straight to the lotto shop. there was a queue of about 5 people also trying their luck. there were two cashiers but one cashier only accepts cash. and all of us in the queue are paying by eftpos. the lady ahead of me seemed like she didn't win any from her previous lotto ticket. and she bought another one. then it's my turn.
i asked the cute guy behind the counter if he can check my previous lotto tickets. with a cute smile in return, he inserted my lotto tickets into his machine. he said i won one bonus ticket and he handed it to me. then another one that he swiped, *ting* said the machine. and he handed me a yellow slip with $745 in it and i saw his machine registered $745, too. he said i won $745! i can't believe what i saw, what i have on my hand and what i heard. did i win this amount? yes, he said! from which draw? from February's draw. hahahaa!! and another one, he swiped another lotto ticket. *ting* said the machine. and he handed me another yellow paper that shows $78! and the machine registered $823, total of $745 and $78! this time, from january draw! yo! and the queue was starting to build up and i can hear them saying im lucky and that it will be nice to have some easter shopping! then i have a bunch of instant kiwi cards which totals to $17!
all in all, I won a total of $840!!!! woot! woot!
if not because of this fund raising from work, i still wouldn't have any idea that i am richer by $840 from january and february lotto draws! awesome! God is good! my mom will be happy! time for another thanksgiving merienda at my prayer community in manila! happy chappy kiwi wannabe! i wish i have someone with me to celebrate this awesome easter surprise! oh well.. you can't have all.... bought pancit in a nearby chinese fastfood to celebrate! that will do for now. ha!

| small time fund raising |

| faith in humanity |
another thing what i like about new zealand is how they show their appreciation to things that you have given or showed them. i may be generalizing but that is what ive seen since i arrived here.
during those times that ive been in and out of hospital, and those times that ive been to the medical centres and those diagnostic laboratories that ive been to, i see a lot of thank you cards hung by the counter or arranged side by side by the counter.
the company where i worked for, one department sent christmas cards last christmas 2008 with the staff photo as their way of introducing themselves to their customers who look after them. not long after, we have been receiving thank you cards from these elderly people saying thank you for the nice christmas card and that it was nice to put faces to a name. and you can just see those letters obviously written by elderly people, crooked, frail and shaking penmanships. though the cards these elderly people had sent us may not be the expensive ones, receiving these thank you cards are priceless.
last night, as i stepped out of the counter in a supermarket, i make it a point to read those small uniform sized papers in the supermarket's bulletin board where people post their announcements whether they're looking for a flatmate, selling something or lost pets, i chanced upon this letter not written on that standard white paper provided by the supermarket. the lady wrote a thank you letter to two good samaritan people who had helped her when she toppled the trolley and knocked her out on the ground. again, judging by the handwriting, i can say this lady is an elderly woman. in her letter, her groceries fell on the ground too. the lady has polio since she was a child and made an excuse that because of this, she is having difficulty with her balance. the two samaritans had helped her back to her feet and had helped her put her groceries in her car. and before she closed her thank you note, she said, with these two samaritans, they have restored her faith in humanity.
yes, faith in humanity. how many of us have lost this faith? i am one of those. being a victim of a cellphone snatcher in manila, with a big bladed knife poked to my side, since then, i had been suspicious with the people around me. i started to doubt other people's intentions. with all the crimes happening, who wouldn't be? but yes, there are still good people out there still willing to lend a helping hand. when i finished reading the old lady's letter on the board, i had goosebumps and i can feel my eyes wanting to shed some tears. off i went to my car to load my groceries.

| subasob! |

| sausages for charity |

"ahhh.. oo nga pala. eto kako si L, she's married and has 3 kids!"
tawanan ang mga loka!
"and this is Y, she just gave birth last year!"
"and im KP, still single!"
"im going back to Hamilton today. and im getting married on Saturday!"

| waitangi day means no work! |
after the auckland day last monday, today is another holiday which they call as waitangi day.
5:30pm on the dot yesterday, i decided to pack up and go home. felt so good! on my way home, i was thinking of going somewhere else, either in a mall or supermarket, but ended up going home straight. i just really wanted to relax!
with this kind of holiday, just like any other holidays in nz, it means a lot of items on specials in malls. shopping galore! but with this kind of weather, nice weather, i bet more people will be going to the beach! or because of this long weekend, most of the kiwis will be away travelling or sailing!
this week alone, on my way to work, i have seen a lot of caravans and sail boats on the roads maybe on their way to their holiday destination. owning a sail boat is one of my dreams! bullet day! *heh*
so yes, it's a long weekend. since i have nowhere to go, i can see myself doing the laundry, cleaning the house, clean up the fridge. hehehhee... and yes.. relaxing!
